8 January 2008
I took photographs of the island from Peter Hohne’s helicopter. We flew very high and there was absolutely no disturbance to the flamingos. The island was literally covered with nesting flamingos, except the highlying area at the south-eastern end of the dam. Eggs were clearly visible in enlarged images. That night, using the aerial images, Tania and I did some estimates of the numbers of Lesser Flamingos incubating eggs. I will not divulge our estimate, but it was obvious that there were many more flamingos incubating eggs than I previously thought.
