The breeding event is remarkably asynchronous, and there are flying young, as well as adults still incubating eggs. It will be interesting to se how the rapidly cooling night-time temperatures (and Kimberley’s cold winter) will affect the breeding flamingos. Some of the fledged young were seen feeding with the adults more than 1 km from the island.

The size of the chicks on the island varies from small, recently hatched ones to very large ones. There are perhaps several hundred adults still incubating eggs.
